Microfluidics -
a focus on the basics
The unique behavior of fluids at small scales holds both challenges in the understanding of basic physical phenomena and opportunities in applying these phenomena toward new technologies. Leveraging micro-scale physics and chemistry to achieve new capabilities is at the core of microfluidics research. As a scientific research field, microfluidics is highly multidisciplinary, attracting researchers from scientific fields as physics, chemistry, and biology as well as from different engineering disciplines.
Many of the existing microfluidics-related conferences are strongly biased towards very specific applications of microfluidics. While embracing technology and applications, the Harrington Symposium on the Physics of Microfluidics will focus on the fundamentals - from fluid/structure interactions, through interfacial flows, to optofluidics and electrokinetics.

We plan to have an informal setting with ample time for discussions, while enjoying good food and drinks in downtown Austin, with its unique atmosphere, style and music scene.

Public transportation
Capital Metro runs a bus service from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to downtown Austin every 15 minutes, 7 days a week.

Look for the neon guitar bus stop, take Route 20 Manor Road/Riverside , and get off at 4th & Lavaca. It's 4 block / 5 min walk to the conference venue.
​
All routes in the High-Frequency Network require a Local fare of $1.25 for a single ride.

The trip to downtown Austin should take about 35 minutes.

Registration
Scientific talks and poster presentations are a great way to know what others in the field are doing. We will also have plenty of discussion time after each talk to hopefully get some good discussions going. However, we strongly believe that an important part of any scientific meeting is the opportunity to socialize, talk, and brainstorm with colleagues. To enable more opportunities for such interaction, registration will cover:
